JAVA Programming Challenge

JAVA Programming Challenge for High School Students

When you have a better understanding of JAVA and can handle a simple programming project, the next step is to create a real application that can actually solve a real problem people face every day.

Brainstorming ideas is one of the ways to identify problems that you can select to create an application.  Another method is to start interviewing people in different industries or by calling small local businesses asking questions on their daily struggles.  Bottom line is to find that one problem you can use to start a personal project.  If you are successful at this project, then you will have the opportunity to use it for one of your accomplishments for College applications or better yet, for your resume to get that internship job with a top SW Engineering company.

Web development is another great way to practice essential computer programming skills.  Students can begin to learn Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) as well as JavaScript and Flash.  Go to Software Engineer Careers HQ resource section for high school students looking to build their very first website.

Final Thought:

Continue to cultivate knowledge and skills in mathematics and science.  Build your credentials for future (college and work force) by taking as many offered software development classes in High School including AP courses.  At the same time, we want to challenge you to start your very own project, whether it is an application solving real problem or a website that can be used as an artifact for potential hiring managers or college.
